Twitter: Home Page Re-Design and Is It A Bird Or a Duck

Twitter had a home page redesign. Very Interesting right? So I immediately went to my Twitter profile (please do so now, but do log-out first or you won’t see it and you’ll feel stupid for about 2 minutes) and saw the great re-design. It’s Tweety bird! No wait, it’s a rubber ducky! No wait, wtf is that?
Below, we can see clearly the thing as a DUCK:

Anyway, it’s not about the design. It’s about the huge-ass search feature and popular topics in their #hashtag form. Twitter positions itself as a realtime search engine of social topics, trending and recent. The search-centric home page suggests to a new user an information driven tool. And as the headline tells it, “Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.” Now that’s awesomely written.
