Twitter: Home Page Re-Design and Is It A Bird Or a Duck
Posted: July 29th, 2009 | Author: Tj Cafuir | Filed under: crazy web stuff, work | 1 Comment »As I was listening to my LastFM, I saw this Mashable news feed om my Google Reader. Twitter had a home page redesign. Very Interesting right? So I immediately went to my Twitter profile (please do so now, but do log-out first or you won’t see it and you’ll feel stupid for about 2 minutes) and saw the great re-design. It’s Tweety bird! No wait, it’s a rubber ducky! No wait, wtf is that?
Below, we can see clearly the thing as a DUCK:

Anyway, it’s not about the design. It’s about the huge-ass search feature and popular topics in their #hashtag form. Twitter positions itself as a realtime search engine of social topics, trending and recent. The search-centric home page suggests to a new user an information driven tool. And as the headline tells it, “Share and discover what’s happening right now, anywhere in the world.” Now that’s awesomely written.
here’s the old home page:

Above, we can clearly see the thing as a BIRD.
Conclusion: the new bird thing logo is a DURD. A hybrid mashup of a duck and bird.
Twitter is a powerful research tool that gives powerful results. Polls, surveys, public awareness, news aggregation, gossip (right people?), media sharing and etc etc etc the list goes on. It’s basically up to the user how to maximize the tool. My Twitter profile allows me to get fresh news and information and share it across the world (by world I meant a measly 128 and counting followers). Never mind that I follow Doug Benson who freely admits he’s an idiot. I get the comedian’s humor and my daily dose of laughter. For now, and because blogging is dead, only Twitter provides that. So go Durd go!

LOL now that you’ve mentioned it, it does kinda look like a duck. I didnt notice when i saw it the first time.
