college girls and internet marketing

Last Saturday at 3pm, many thanks to Jozzua the Techpreneur, I was invited to speak about Web Marketing and Search Engine Optimization at the Miriam College. Yes, Miriam. The all-girls college in Katipunan. The school where divine angels are disguised as students in pretty green skirts. Back when I was in school, Miriam was a collegian’s heaven. So to say the very least, I was in sweet delirium when I learned that I’m going have a mini-seminar there.

So I crammed prepared heavily for an awesome presentation. Now when I say awesome, I meant Google SERP Heat Maps and Web User global stats in charts and tables all with awesome Powerpoint animation. I figured that this is the chance to A: Advance my skills in public speaking regarding Web Marketing and B: To make “pa-cute” in front of “sosi” college girls hoping that maybe one or two may have a crush on me because I need constant attention to keep my superficial self-esteem at mid-level. Yes my friends, I’m such a douchebag.

Waiting feverishly at the office, Saturday afternoon came and naturally, eternally and without remorse, I was fashionably late. And please do take that literally because before heading to Miriam I went back to my house to change clothes and wear my favorite long sleeves to basically, to look more cool. Now upon arriving at the Miriam College building I entered a room full of gossiping E-Commerce students and their century old professor. Then the room suddenly silenced. So who is this guy who has SkullCandy headphones on, his sleeves rolled up and his Vans sneakers all grungy? Ahem. “Hi, I’m TJ Cafuir. Senior SEO Specialist and PPC Advertising Analyst. Good afternoon.”

And the afternoon did went very well. I started my talk with a foreword regarding the importance of E-Commerce. Soon as the students understood the perspective of being an E-tailer, I went on explaining the promotion of websites thru Web Marketing. The cute and smart E-Biz Kids of Miriam were very curious of how do Search Engines work, and when I showed them a sample Heat Map, I got a couple of oohs and aahs from them. I also talked about Social Media Optimization, which I think is the more fun part since we get to discuss social networking sites such as Blogs, Facebook, Friendster, Myspace, Youtube and the like. Now girls if your reading this, please add me on FaceBook. I need friends.

Now remember the awesome presentation? Ah well it didn’t work. I opened the file and the presentation only had 5 slides instead of the 21 that I made. Crap. So much for all the awesomeness I’ve put into it. But you know what? It actually made my talk better since the students and I became more interactive, with all subject matter being live online instead on pre-meditated slideshows. And here’s what, at the end of the talk I was given a round of applause. Man that feels great. 19 year olds giving sweet applause. I would like to get used to that.

It was such a great experience. Seriously, the best part of it was to, in my very own way, impart knowledge to graduating students who may very well have the same career in the future as what I have now. The professor told the class that they were very lucky to have me talking about Web Marketing. People I am not boasting, but the old guy is right. Me, I have to learn Web Marketing mostly by myself, and I didn’t even finish college. Needless to say, I had it tough and I still need to work it hard everyday. But these students now have great resources that will definitely help them in the future. That is great. Someday I hope they’ll be the ones who’s giving out seminars and conferences. And hopefully someday they will remember me too, that SEO Specialist who the whole school group has a crush on. *lolz.
